Other World - music by Maya Khaldi

Other World is a live performance of Maya Khaldi’s debut album which was inspired by Palestinian folklore music, is influenced by the present, and imagines a sonic future. It is a non-linear time travel where the samples and parts of the songs take you to our grandmother’s Palestine. While the voice and lyrics are positioned to welcome listeners into the present currents of time, the repetitive sounds and the aural atmosphere of the tracks produced by Sarouna are an experiential shift into the future. This music is a submersion into the power of Palestinian vocal expression, within a realm where time is ebbing and flowing against the eardrums, and is reclaimed with experimentation and imagination. The added touches of electronic and qanoon instrumentation allow the ambiance to become an intrinsic netting of acoustic and electronic sound worlds.
